Why we as a company and I, as a business owner, support the Susan G Komen 3 Day Cancer Walk.

It boils down to making choices.
We choose to support those who are making a difference by giving up untold hours in training, prepping, networking, fundraising and otherwise getting ready for what could be the most important 72 hours of their individual and collective lives. We also support the families, co-workers and friends who make adjustments for the walkers and volunteers.
We have chosen to make sacrifices in our daily by giving up the small, unimportant things so we can give more. My morning coffee is $3.80 + tip….$19 a week….$81.70 a month. Not much, but what if that $3.80 is the difference between a cure or not? What if the researchers couldn’t run that one last experiment because they are short $3.80 for something they need? Starbucks can live without selling me a Double-Tall Mocha (non-fat, no whip), it’s not like they were just told they have breast cancer.
We choose to be the kind of company that understands that our community is far more important than profits. We chose to understand that we, as a company, have been blessed with the best customers ever and we choose to give back in the only way we know how. With good old cash. If we could walk, perhaps we would….but in the meantime, we chose to give our full and undivided attention to those who can walk and to our customers who makes it possible to us to support The 3 Day Walk.
We chose to support those who might help find a cure for cancer so our mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, girlfriends, ex-girlfriends, co-workers, next door neighbors, friends and total strangers will never have to hear the words “It is cancer”.
Finally, I choose life. My amazing daughter is almost 17. She has a full and rich life ahead of her. She’ll experience incredible highs…..high school, boys, college, travel, a career (or two, she isn’t quite sure what she wants to do yet), wedding, children, happiness…… she’ll also have some low points….high school, boys (grrrrr), college, travel…..you get the point. But, I
don’t see cancer anywhere in her life….so I chose to do what I can to prevent it.
